1. Who We Are
Mooku is a service that helps families preserve life stories through guided AI-assisted audio interviews. When we say "Mooku," "we," "us," or "our," we mean Sly and Tiny LLC, the team operating this platform.
2. Information We Collect
Account information: When you create a sponsor account, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash).
Storyteller information: When you create a capsule for a storyteller, we collect the storyteller's name and, optionally, a photo. Storytellers themselves do not create accounts — they access the app via a login code you share with them.
Audio recordings and transcripts: We store all audio recorded during interview sessions, along with AI-generated transcripts and extracted highlights ("Moments").
Usage data: We may collect standard log data such as IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited, to help us operate and improve the Service.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, operate, and improve the Service
- To generate transcripts and AI-extracted Moments from audio recordings
- To send account-related emails (e.g. verification, password reset)
- To respond to support requests
- To detect and prevent abuse or unauthorized access
We do not sell your data. We do not use your recordings to train AI models without your explicit consent.
4. Text Messages (SMS)
If you opt in during account registration, Mooku may send you transactional text messages, such as a login code to share with your storyteller to begin an interview session.
- Opt-in: You consent to receive SMS by checking the opt-in box on the registration page. Consent is not required to use Mooku.
- Message frequency: Message frequency varies based on your activity. You will only receive messages directly related to your account or active capsule sessions.
- Opt-out: Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe at any time. You will receive a single confirmation message and no further texts.
- Help: Reply HELP for help, or contact us at the address below.
- Rates: Message and data rates may apply depending on your carrier plan.
- Carriers: Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
SMS delivery is handled by Twilio. Your phone number is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Third-Party Services
To provide the Service, we work with carefully selected third-party providers:
- Cloud storage: Audio files and assets are stored on secure cloud infrastructure (e.g. Amazon S3 or Cloudflare R2).
- Transcription: Audio is processed by a transcription provider (e.g. Deepgram or AssemblyAI) to generate text.
- AI processing: Transcripts may be sent to an AI provider (e.g. Anthropic) to extract Moments and assist with interview orchestration.
- Email delivery: Transactional emails are sent via a third-party email provider.
- SMS delivery: Text messages are sent via Twilio. See Section 4 for details.
All third-party providers are contractually required to handle your data securely and only for the purposes we specify.
6. Data Sharing
We do not share your personal data or recordings with third parties except:
- With service providers as described above
- If required by law or valid legal process
- To protect the rights or safety of Mooku, our users, or the public
- In connection with a merger or acquisition, with notice provided to you
7. Data Retention
We retain your account data and recordings for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be permanently removed from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by applicable law.
We strongly encourage you to download copies of your recordings, as we cannot guarantee indefinite availability.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights including:
- Access to the personal data we hold about you
- Correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion of your account and associated data
- Objection to certain uses of your data
9. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords, and access controls to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take the protection of your stories seriously.
10. Children's Privacy
Mooku is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service. Your continued use of Mooku after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
